Spring is in the air and, as lambs frolic and petals unfurl, Covid restrictions seem to have eased up enough for real-life author visits to take place once again. After a near two year hiatus it was wonderful to be back on the road (or in this case railway track) with none other than Karl Newson, to take our book I Really, Really Need A Wee down to the far reaches of Cornwall – Camborne and St Ives, to be precise.
All aboard!
Our visit was arranged by Booktrust as part of the Story Time Prize, for which Wee was shortlisted, and included trips to St Ives Infant School, Stories By The Sea bookshop and Camborne Library. Having said I would never don fancy dress for book events (aside from my astronaut flight suit, which I count as highly practical clothing), I found myself in a limur onesie, doing a jiggle-wiggle dance in the sweltering springtime warmth. With more events planned for the future, I imagine Karl and I will be getting our money’s worth out of said onesies, and will probably lose more fluids than a Formula 1 driver in a sauna as the temperature increases – they seemed like a good idea at the time!

A huge thank you to Booktrust for organising this trip – especially the irrepressible (and very busy) Sarah Sleath; Heather & Andy from Stories By The Sea for supplying the books and full guided tour of their shop and the beautiful town of St Ives; The children and staff of St Ives Infant School; and the staff and attendees at Camborne Library. It was a jam-packed couple of days that made me truly appreciate just how much I’ve missed physical author visits. Until next time!
