Back in July, I was commissioned to design and illustrate the Autumn Trail at Westonbirt Arboretum in Tetbury, Glos. The story-based trail had previously been the mainstay of a certain Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler, so I was aware I had some pretty cavernous shoes to fill. I created a bespoke story called ‘The Ballad of Birtha’ centred on a woodland spirit called Birtha. Visitors need to find all her woodland sprite friends to help her regain her strength after she’s used her magic giving the trees their fabulous autumn colours. I’ll also be leading a craft workshop throughout the October half term. The trail signs are all installed thanks to the industrious volunteers. So keep an eye out if you are heading to the arboretum this autumn!
